Young woman shot in Hartford. Case among multiple recent gunfire incidents.

A young woman was shot Saturday night and detectives are investigating, police said.

Hartford Police Department patrol officers responded to the area of 100 block of Babcock Street just after 9 p.m. Saturday after receiving a ShotSpotter notification, Lt  Aaron Boisvert said. Shotspotter detects gunfire and alert authorities.

Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim. Boistvert said.

The victim, a female in her twenties, was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, he said.

She was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Neither the victim nor the hospital were named by police.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded and assumed the investigation, Boisvert said.

In an unrelated incident involving gunfire, Hartford police arrested a man who allegedly shot at someone during a road rage incident in Hartford on Thursday night.

Officers responded to the area of Park and Washington Streets just before 8:40 p.m. on a report of a road rage incident that led to gunshots being fired and found that the driver who called police had gunfire damage to their car, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.

No injuries were reported in that incident.

In another unrelated recent case from a shooting last year, a Hartford man was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal shooting in Hartford in 2024.

Courtney Byrd, 22, is charged with felony murder and carrying a pistol without a permit for a shooting in August 2024, according to Boisvert.

Officers responded to 3250 Main St. just after 1:30 a.m. on August. 24, 2024 on a report of person shot and located a gunshot victim who was unresponsive at the scene. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Niajae Vernon of Hartford, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Boisvert said.

During the investigation conducted by the Hartford Police Department’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions, a suspect was developed, according to Boisvert.

Probable cause was established, and an arrest warrant was issued for Byrd, Boisvert said.

In as yet another recent incident, two people were taken into custody after an attempted shooting in Hartford led to a police chase involving state troopers which ended in Cromwell.

The suspects were apprehended after the vehicle they were in was chased by troopers on Route 9 before the vehicle came to a stop in Cromwell, according to Connecticut State Police.

They were not immediately identified.

Boisvert said Thursday that the vehicle was being pursued after his agency put a be on the lookout alert out to area law enforcement.

Boisvert said the vehicle was believed to be tied to a shots fired incident in the 100 block of Nelson Street around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. He described it as an attempted shooting.
